LiFePO4 vs Lead Acid
Which is Better for You?
The biggest question when choosing an EV battery is this - LiFePO4 or the older lead acid?
Life
LiFePO4 usually lasts 2000-3000 cycles, while lead acid lasts 300-500. That means about 5-6 years for LiFePO4 and 1-1.5 years for lead acid.
Weight
At the same capacity LiFePO4 weighs roughly half as much - which increases the range of the vehicle.
Cost
LiFePO4 looks expensive at first, but because it lasts 4-5 times longer it works out cheaper over time.
The verdict
For a commercial vehicle used every day (an e-rickshaw), LiFePO4 is the right choice. For a vehicle used only occasionally, lead acid can do the job.
